Once upon a time there lived a king and queen who longed to have a child. One day as the sun was rising, yet there was still a single star in the sky; a beautiful baby girl was born. They called her Sorrow, though they really weren't sure why.
The king was overjoyed and ordered a great feast.
And thus our Fairy Tale truly begins:

King Tren watched as the great hall fill with people who had been invited to the mighty feast in the rather large palace. His relatives and Fairies alike filled the tables, everyone chattering endlessly about the weather and other such boring topics. He couldn't wait until this was over. He was hunched over in his wide throne, his head resting on his fist boredly. His wife on the other hand was sitting almost too straight in her chair, her expression interested in everyone and everything, or so it appeared.
After a few long moments everyone settled down and rested their eyes on him to get things started.
He sighed and stood, his arms raised to get attention. "Greetings! I welcome you all to my humble kingdom, in my humble palace, which is crowded with my humble people!" A few people raised their eyebrows. "I thank you all for coming to welcome my new, and only, daughter to the world!"
The people cheered. Tren murmured something about how he really did not want to do this and then smiled toward them. "I would love for the three "Good" Fairies to come and present their gifts now. Thank you again for your presence!" With that done he sat down and once more returned to his bored expression.
From the middle of the room, sparkles formed in the colors of pink, green, and blue, and suddenly light flashed, revealing three rather pretty women standing in long robes. The first one-stepped forward. She had pure yellow hair in ringlets pulled into a high ponytail on top of her head. Her eyes were a minty green, and she wore every shade of pink in her rather tight robes that was imaginable. She also wore a lot of makeup.
She looked down at the child and smiled, which made King Tren shutter unwillingly. "What a SWEET CHILD!" Everyone in the room gasped, and Tren, Saiyomi and the other two fairies winced at the loud screech that came from her mouth. She may have been beautiful, but she was an idiot to be sure.
"My GIFT shall be the GIFT OF BEAUTY!" Everyone involuntarily placed their hands over their ears. The Pink Fairy, whose name was Selena, waved a large, very pink, wand at the child, and sparks flew at her in the shape of roses. The baby Sorrow sneezed from the smoke that filled her crib. Selena smiled brightly, and rather air-headishly. "And I also present a SECOND GIFT!" Tren groaned.
"I give you the GIFT OF QUICK WIT!” Sparks flew out in the shape of a rabbit, dancing about quickly.
"Yeah, not something you have a lot of. Thanks for that Selena." The second fairy, known as Narien, stepped forward waving the smoke away from her with her green wand. "That'll do. My turn." The second fairy also had blond hair, though it was very long and of a lighter color and laid simple about her shoulders. Her eyes were a deep green, and she had long pointed ears sticking out rather gracefully, her robes were light and dark green, which fit her figure well.
She looked at the small child and gave a soft smile. "Okay little one, I have a few for you," She waved her wand over the child's head. "I give you the Gift of Goodness, the Gift of Charm, and the Gift of Song." Three sparks shot from her power stick, one in the form of a small flower, one in the form of small star, and the other in the form of a bird. They danced about Sorrow and then disappeared, without the smoke.
She bowed toward the King and Queen and then stepped back down toward the other two fairies.
The last fairy, Ruja, walked up to the crib, her own long blue robes with black trim swaying. She had short black hair to her shoulders and black eyes that shown like obsidian, with black feline ears perched on top of her head. She stopped to look at the baby and was about to wave her own blue wand, when a gust of strong wind blew passed her, causing all of the windows and doors to fly open.
In the center of the room black smoke suddenly shot up and the middle of it stood a dark figure with a long black cloak, with pink trim.
As the smoke began to clear, there came a coughing sound, followed by a very deep voice. "Stupid smoke, always use to much..." The Wicked Fairy Master Vuudo looked up as everyone stared at him. "Oh, sorry..." He cleared his throat. "How dare you not invite me to this great feast! Am I not considered a fairy? Darn you all to H--"
"Now, now Wicked Fairy, watch your mouth, this is a children's story after all. Besides, no one knew that you even existed." Narien cut him off casually.
He glared. "Darn, I was so looking forward to that line too...ahem...anyway. Because you left me out of the fun, I will place a curse on the baby that in the year of her sixteenth birthday, she will prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and DIE! MUHAHAHAHAHA!" With that he disappeared into another burst of smoke, coughing the whole while until he was no longer there.
"Great." Ruja muttered under her breath. Tren and Saiyomi were heartbroken, but Ruja merely sighed and flicked her blue wand, since she had not yet given her gift. "I can fix it, somewhat." She looked down at the kid and swung her wand, sending small sparks in the shape of spinning wheels. "I cannot take back the curse," she said softly, "but I can soften it. The princess will not die. Instead she will fall into a deep sleep for one hundred years until the kiss of a prince shall awaken her."
Still this did not aid the great pain the king and queen felt, so King Tren ordered that every spinning wheel in the kingdom be burned and that no one be allowed to keep even a single one.

The princess grew, and all the gifts of the Good fairies were fulfilled. She became so beautiful, intelligent, and pure of heart that everyone who saw her could not help but love her.
Sorrow was loving to everyone, even total strangers, always putting others before herself. She was quick to learn things and always had an interest in what others were doing. She learned how to cook, sew and even had a slight turn for mischief. She was a good balance of everything...well...good!
It so happened that on the eve of her sixteenth birthday, the king and queen paid a visit to a neighboring kingdom. The princess was left alone in the castle, except the three good fairies, who would come by often to keep an eye on her. Sorrow, with the little bit of mischief she had, would amuse herself by trying to keep hidden from them by wandering through the numerous rooms and halls. She peered into cramped attics and explored tall, forgotten towers.
In the attempt to lose the Fairies, she discovered a dusty spiral staircase and climbed the narrow steps around and around until she came to a little door. A rusty key was in the lock, and when the princess turned it, the door sprang open.
She stepped inside; her curiosity peeked at its highest.
Inside the small room a cloaked figure sat with a spinning wheel, busily spinning flax into thread.
Sorrow smiled. "How do you do?" She gave a low curtsy, her light pink curly hair spilling about her shoulders. "Pray, tell me, what are you doing?" for she had never seen such a strange devise.
"I am spinning, dear child," came a rather deep reply, making Sorrow jump slightly.
"Oh, I see, may I try?" she asked sweetly.
"Sure." The figure looked up, and Sorrow couldn't help but gasp at the ugly face that looked out from the hood. There sat a man...thing, with light pink skin, red and blue eyes, but black instead white behind the pupil. He had large fangs that showed when he smiled His hair was long and black. with pink streaks through it.
Not wanting to seem rude, she carefully reached out her hand. But no sooner had she touched the spindle than it pricked her finger.
The moment she was pricked, she fell down to floor.
"MUHAHAHAHAHA!" Master Vuudo stood up and removed the cloak. "I have done it, yay me! You are now asleep, and no one will ever awaken you!" Smoke filled the room, and once more, coughing could be heard, "Stupid smoke..." and then he disappeared.
It was at this time the three good fairies came into the room looking for the young princess. They stopped frozen. As the smoke cleared; they saw the girl laying on the floor, deep asleep.
"OH NO!" Selena screeched loudly. Narien rolled her eyes, her long ear twitching, and then walked over to the Sleeping Sorrow.
"Yup, she's out like a light." Narien said coolly.
Ruja muttered another "Great" and then cocked an eyebrow. "That means that the whole kingdom will be asleep. That was part of the spell I cast, so that they would receive no heartache. They will also not age, for that would be weird."
"Good idea Ruja.” Narien agreed, "Well, let's go since we're no longer in the story, until the end, and let everyone else handle it." Ruja nodded and the three disappeared.
It was true, the instant the princess had pricked her finger, the sleep had spread throughout the kingdom. King Tren and queen Saiyomi, who were just returning from the neighboring kingdom, fell asleep in the doorway. All the pages, courtiers, guards and watchmen fell asleep where they stood. The dogs fell asleep in the courtyard, and the horses fell asleep in their stables.
Everyone fell under the spell, sleeping where they happened to be. Even the fires that burned in the kitchen fireplaces stopped flickering and fell asleep. The wind fell silent, and not even a leaf, nor a pinch of dust, stirred in the king's castle.
Soon a great bier hedge began to grow around the castle. It grew thick and high until nothing could be seen of the castle, not even the flags that waved from its towers. Over the years various stories spread about the enchanted bier hedge and the castle behind it. Some people even said that a beautiful princess lay sleeping there in one of the towers.
Princes from kingdoms near and far came and tried to cut through the bier hedge to find the sleeping princess. But when the young men tried to pass through, the hedge's thorny branches clasped tightly around them. The princes became trapped in the bier hedge and died miserably, which wasn't all that great for them.
One day, when the one hundred years were almost up, a young and very handsome prince, named Jonas, happened to visit the kingdom. He had heard an old man telling the story of the bier hedge and the hidden castle and the beautiful princess who had been sleeping there for countless years.
Curious, he decided to try and get through the hedge himself.

~ ~ ~

The Wicked Fairy Master Vuudo yawned boredly, his pearly fangs glinting slightly under the dim candlelight. “Man, nothing exciting has happened in one hundred years. What is an Wicked Fairy to do, if there is, well, nothing to do?”
He watched a glowing pinkish ball, floating in the middle of the room. It was very much like a screen, and with his wand, he flipped to each thing that was happening outside of his realm. “Nothing...new babies being born...how dull...a girl bitting into a poisoned apple...unoriginal...someone losing their slipper...oh please! An unknown prince venturing into a thorny hedge to find the fair Sleeping Sorrow...bor—wait a minute!” He stopped flicking his wand and paused on the picture of a young, handsome man with black hair, and orange eyes, cutting through the thorns with ease. “That is actually interesting. If it's been a hundred years since I cast that spell, then he's the prince who can awaken her! And if he's the prince that can awaken her, he'll get through the thorns and kiss her and I'll be out of a job!” His glared at the ball. “I don't think so. I'll put a stopped to him! MUHAHAHAHA!”He stood, flung his cloak on and disappeared in black smoke. Coughing could be heard once again. “Dang...why do they give me so much smoke all of the time?”

~ ~ ~

The handsome prince Jonas cut through the brambles with his sword, while wondering if this was really worth it. He had seen many bones of previous princes and was beginning to think about turning back. But something deep in his heart told him to continue, so he did.
Finally, he cut the last thorny branch, and peered at the castle, which did indeed appear to be under a spell. It seemed new and marvelous, but it was silent and still.
He stepped forward and in that instant, a burst of black smoke suddenly appeared before him, causing him to step back. When it had cleared there stood the Wicked Fairy Master Vuudo. “Hey, I actually didn't cough this time...”
Jonas blinked. “What are you supposed to be? Some kind of Sorcerer?”
“I am the mighty, Wicked Fairy MASTER Vuudo! And I am here to stop you from entering into my spell casting and ruining my job! I have waited too long (WAY too long) to have you ruin this for me! It's called revenge!” While the Wicked Fairy was monologuing, prince Jonas simple walked over and chopped off his head. Master Vuudo then burst into smoke and was gone.
With the Wicked Vuudo defeated (without effort), the handsome prince ventured forward to the tower.
Upon reaching the door, he gently opened it and peeked inside. There (right where the good fairies had left her on the floor) was a maiden more beautiful then anything he had imagined. Kneeling down, he bent over and kissed her lightly on the lips.
The sleeping beauty stirred, and her lovely pink eyes fluttered open and she smiled at Jonas. It was love at first sight. At that moment (as they stared at each other) Jonas asked her to marry him and she accepted, and then on the way down from the tower he explained what had happened, since she didn't have a clue.

The moment Sorrow had been kissed, the whole kingdom had awakened from it's deep slumber. King Tren and queen Saiyomi opened their eyes, thinking that only a few moments had passed from when they had arrived from their journey.
The kitchen maids went back to their chores, the fires stirred back to life in the fireplaces, the dogs began to bark once more. The guards went back to guarding, and the pages, lords and ladies went back to gossiping or talking nonsense, as usual. Everything went back to normal and no one knew that one hundred years had passed.
When Sorrow and Jonas came down the stairs, the kingdom rejoiced at the fact that the princess had found a prince (no one questioned how it had happened in only a few moments). King Tren and queen Saiyomi welcomed him and declared a royal wedding.
At the feast of the wedding, everyone was there (all except the people in neighboring kingdoms, whose kings and queens had died over a hundred years back), including the three good fairies, Ruja, Narien and Selena, who smiled about what had happened, but said nothing, not wanting to make the story go on any longer.
Princess Sorrow and prince Jonas were married and did indeed live...
Happily Ever After.
