He Is My Dad

He carried me when I was young,
And put me in my bed.
I fell asleep; a cozy sleep,
His voice inside my head.

I used to wait for him to come,
When he was far away.
A smile would light upon my face,
When he was there to stay.

He had a strength unlike most men,
His arms were safe and warm.
He'd hold me tightly to his chest,
And protect me from each storm.

His voice was soft like raindrops,
His eyes shone like the sun.
When he cried, my heart cried too,
It made me want to run.

He had a faith unshakable,
Through trials, he turned to God.
And when things hit a rough patch,
He'd hold the Iron Rod.

He watched me when I struggled,
And gave a kindly word.
But he was firm and steady,
And what he said was heard.

I never saw him wavering,
Even when things were hard.
He was always standing straight and true,
And always on his guard.

Of course he made mistakes,
As always, life has those and more.
But he would never give it up,
He was a guiding light, to the very core.

And now I watch from a distance,
My Knight with Shining Soul.
And though he is much older now,
He still makes me feel whole.

He is the perfect defender,
A hero without a cape.
He fights and protects the weaker ones.
My future he has shaped.

Although the years have changed us,
And things are not the same,
He will always be my Champion.
And I proudly wear his name.

I love him more then life itself,
He's the best example I've ever had.
He is my Knight, my Shield and Sword,
But above it all, he is my Dad.
